Bike Around the Mljet National Park
The northeastern side of Mljet was designated a national park back in 1960. This park covers 5,300 acres, which is around one-third of the size of Mljet, and boasts flooded bays, stunning pine woods, a host of flora and fauna, and two amazing lakes. The lakes Veliko Jezero and Malo Jezero are around 4 kilometers in length together, with a designated trail for visitors to bike or hike along. In the center of the larger lake, you will also find a 12th-century monastery! To get the most out of this national park, we recommend renting a bike in nearby Pomena, Mali Most, and Polae. Biking is a nice way to cover more ground, and the park is flat and has well-marked bike paths throughout.
Dive into the Mljet Coral Reef
Mlject is very well-known for its clear waters, which draw divers from both far and wide. However, not many visitors realize that Mljet has a real coral reef, which is located on one side of the Veliko Jezero, which is in the Mljet National Park. Although the coral has been damaged over the years due to invasive algae and rising water temperatures, the biodiversity around the reef is still unique and worth a dive. This is the only coral reef located in Croatia, which makes it a must-see for both divers and aquatic enthusiasts.
Check out the Roman Palace
This incredible structure on the Polace seafront is impossible to miss, and it is so large that the road now actually runs through the middle of it! This opulent palace, which dates back to the 5th century, features a rectangular floor plan with towers on the front corners that are divided by a pier. A late Antiquity fort and a Christian church are among some of the other ancient relics that are dispersed around the area.
