Planning your trip to Europe can be quite exciting, but packing smart makes all the difference between a smooth journey and unnecessary stress and anxiety. Whether you are strolling through the charming streets of Paris, checking out the historic sites in Rome, or hiking through the Swiss Alps, having all the essentials in your suitcase will ensure you are prepared for every single experience. From versatile clothes and other travel-friendly gadgets to documents and security items, there is a lot you will need. Read on to learn more.
Passport
Your passport is the most essential item you need to travel abroad. A passport serves as the main identification document for travelers going through international borders. In Europe, border authorities will stamp the empty pages with empty stamps, while for other destinations you might have to obtain a visa or other entrance permit before entering. All of these live inside a passport. Your passport is a legal requirement that you travel with, and if you run into any emergencies while you’re aboard, your passport is a way for your home country’s embassy to verify who you are and give you support.
Debit and Credit Cards
Before leaving, plan how you will spend money on your trip on things like experiences, souvenirs, and meals. Understand the different currencies used in the places you will travel to and have a solid plan for how you will deal with currency conversions. We recommend a debit card that does not charge fees for using ATMs not in their network and a credit card that doesn’t have foreign transaction fees. Before you head to Europe, make sure you alert your bank that you will be abroad and specify the countries and dates that you will be away. Try to leave at least one credit or debit card locked in your hotel for emergencies only.
Phone Chargers, Data Plans, and Power Banks
With so much of our itinerary details and other travel information on our phones these days, having a dependable supply of battery power is a necessity. Always travel with a phone charger, and a reliable power bank is wise as well. Check with your phone carrier to see if they provide international data packages and how much they cost.
Comfortable Clothes and Shoes
While traveling throughout Europe, comfortable clothes and shoes are essential, since you will likely be spending hours every day exploring on foot. Having the right attire can make or break your experience. Bad shoes could quickly lead to blisters or sore feet, so make sure you have a comfortable pair with you that is already broken in. Wearing breathable, weather-appropriate clothes will ensure you stay comfortable too.
