Europe is filled with so much history – in castles, plazas, churches, museums and ancient streets and monuments; however it is also home to some of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. While it is always great to explore the local culture and history, sometimes you just need some relaxing time on the beach! Explore these coasts with AESU, and learn about a few of Europe’s most beautiful beaches.
Ibiza, Spain
Located among the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza is known around the world for its great nightlife atmosphere. You will find many popular restaurants, bars, and clubs along the Platja d’en Bossa beach. Despite its reputation as a wild nightclub environment, Ibiza is also pretty family-friendly. Some of the most popular party beaches are on the north side of the island, but if you’re looking for a calmer, more tranquil atmosphere, you can head to the southern side of the island and enjoy the Playa Sa Caleta. Either way, Ibiza has something for everyone, whether you are traveling as a single, couple, or in a family.
Crete, Greece
Since the country of Greece consists of a peninsula and an archipelago of about 3,000 islands, it’s no surprise that it contains amazing beaches. In particular, you will find several popular beaches on Greece’s largest island, Crete. You can visit the beautiful pink sand lagoon of Elafonissi, just off Crete’s coast, or head north to explore the historic archaeological beaches in Phalasarna. It would take you less than a day to travel across the island of Crete, but since there’s so much to see you’ll want to allot at least a few days! Luckily since it is one of the most heavily populated islands in Greece, there is no shortage of accommodation options.
Lagos, Portugal
In the southern Algarve region of Portugal is Lagos, a town known for its beautiful cliffs and Atlantic beaches. Lagos is a harbor town that is great if you are looking for something different from the typical beach experience. You can traverse the steep wooden steps to the secluded cove of Praia do Camilo, or you can marvel at the views at the cliffside Ponta da Piedade beach, which has a lighthouse. If you’re looking for a larger, less secluded beach, the golden sands and turquoise waters of Meia Praia offer perfect surfing conditions. Lagos has so many different beaches to offer, and the best part is that they are all within walking distance of each other!
