The Top Oktoberfest Celebrations All Across Germany

Fall brings one of the top festivals of the year in Germany: Oktoberfest!

Fall brings one of the top festivals of the year in Germany: Oktoberfest! It is a folk festival that started in Munich in the 1800s, and it features plenty of traditional Bavarian cuisine, rides, dancing, and, of course, a lot of beer. While Munich is the original home of this festival, other cities in Germany host their own versions of this festival. So, if you can’t make it to Munich or you’re looking for a festival that is a bit less crowded, you can still join in the fun. Read on for a few of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in Germany!

Edelweiss Lodger and Resort in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Are you headed to Bavaria and want to celebrate Oktoberfest beyond the official festival dates? If you’re in Edelweiss, which is a military resort about 60 miles southwest of Munich, you will discover their family-friendly version of Oktoberfest. It’s complete with beer, Bavarian buffets, and live music.

Stuttgart

Stuttgart’s Oktoberfest, which is known as the “Cannstatter Volksfest,” goes from late September to early October. Similar in tradition to the Munich Oktoberfest, their version is smaller but still attracts millions of visitors. It features eight tents, rides, and a market with a lot of food vendors. The first Sunday of the festival is known as the “Volksfest parade,” like horse-drawn brewery wagons and other colorful costumes. The Stuttgart Oktoberfest also has family-centered days on Wednesdays.

Frankfurt

Frankfurt’s Oktoberfest lasts for about an entire month and is held in Deutsche Bank Park, which is a sports stadium just a few miles from the airport in Frankfurt. If you want a taste of Oktoberfest on a much smaller scale, the Frankfurt Festival is a solid choice. It offers a full spread of German food and beer, and is known to have excellent live bands. Also, the location is easily accessible through public transportation, and you can rent traditional German clothes in case you don’t have your own pair of Lederhosen!
