Not many people know about this small group of islands, so you are at an advantage today if you plan to go to the Azores. Read on to learn more about the Azores islands and what to do and see while you’re there!

Explore Ponta Delgada

Begin your trip by exploring the capital city of Ponta Delgada. Consider wandering through its historic streets, visit the 18th-century Church of Sao Sebastia, and admire the stunning architecture. You should visit the Mercado De Graca. The produce sold here is fresh, and there’s a wide fish selection available if you’re hungry!

Visit the Beautiful Sete Cidades

Sete Cidades is a popular twin lake system located right in a volcanic crater and a famous site to visit in Sao Miguel. Take in the various panoramic views from the Vista do Rei viewpoint, or consider going kayaking and paddling on the waters. There is also a cute tale about Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde. They are a single lake divided by a bridge but look like two. One side of it is blue, and the other is green.

Go Visit the Monte Palace

If you enjoy some creepy locations, the Hotel Monte Palace opened up in 1989 and was the Azores’ first-ever five-star hotel. It was complete with every amenity you can think of, like restaurants, bars, nightclubs, a hairdresser, and a bank. It was then awarded the “Best Hotel of the Year” in Portugal, and it closed years later. It is located on a mountaintop overlooking the picturesque Sete Cidades lagoon and offers some of the most stunning views on the island.

Go Swimming at Praia Dos Moinhos

Enjoy a relaxing day at the beach by visiting Praia dos Moinhos, a black sand beach that is located in the town of Porto Formoso. Go swimming in the Atlantic waters, relax on the sandy shores, and have a picnic on the nearby grassy plains.
