With stunning wildlife, incredible natural beauty, bustling cities, wine safaris, and delicious dinners with deep history, South Africa is a country of different charms and attractions. The country is renowned for its famous safaris across national parks and equally popular for cosmo vibes like Cape Town. Cities like Johannesburg and Durban throb with an urban vibe and are typically used as a base to explore different attractive surroundings. With so much to do and see in South Africa, one trip might not be enough! AESU has our South Africa Explorer trip this year, so read on to learn more about the top things to do in South Africa!

Johannesburg

Johannesburg is known as the economic capital of Africa and also the gateway to Southern Africa with a multicultural blend of traditional architecture and modern skyscrapers.

Johannesburg is known as the economic capital of Africa and also the gateway to Southern Africa with a multicultural blend of traditional architecture and modern skyscrapers, with old-style medicine shops, colorful markets, and Chinese restaurants, all of which compete for your attention. The Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg is one of the most popular attractions in South Africa. It is a modern, contemporary space that is dedicated to South Africa’s historical past. Located in the heart of Johannesburg, it is curated by a team of different designers, filmmakers, and historians. You can explore the interactive museum that presents documents of the rise and fall of the South African apartheid. Our tour here will also include a visit to Soweto, the township that is about 30 minutes west of the heart of Johannesburg. The best way to experience Soweto’s true and modern face is by visiting with a local. You could also visit the Hector Pieterson Memorial or the Nelson Mandela House during our tour.

Greater Kruger National Park

Join us and some park rangers for a thrilling day in the Greater Kruger National Park. This park contains a safari with spectacular sights you won’t want to miss out on. Our tour will start by ascending to the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga, reaching a stunning altitude of around 6,000 feet. Here, you can witness the breathtaking God’s Window, offering stunning views of mountains, canyons, baobab trees, and waterfalls. Our adventure continues with a visit to the Blyde River Canyon Reserve, which is the world’s third-biggest canyon. We also stop in the Makalali Private Game Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park’s conservation area.

Cape Town

Join us and some park rangers for a thrilling day in the Greater Kruger National Park.

Cape Town has some of the best urban beaches in the entire world, from fashionable Camps Bay to Boulders Beach, with its colony of endangered African Penguins – there is something here for everyone. Cape Town has an amazing food scene and a very laid-back lifestyle as well. Our tour will take us on a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain right outside Cape Town, so don’t miss your chance to book a spot on our South Africa Explorer trip today!
