Deciding what to bring with you on your trip is as personal as picking a travel companion, and by no means do we dare ever to propose a packing list for the Galapagos that will work for each person. However, we are here to suggest a few essentials that everyone needs while traveling to Galapagos. Read on to learn more!
Clothing
For the daytime in the Galapagos, you will probably want to be in shorts and a loose, comfortable shirt or tank top. A wide-brimmed or long-billed hat with some sunglasses is crucial for protecting your eyes, your face, and neck from the scorching equatorial sun. For evenings on a boat, mainly cruise ships, dinner could be a bit more formal, so a dress shirt or sun dress could be a brilliant idea. Many ships do not have dress codes, so your daytime clothes will work fine. Consider bringing one or two pairs of light pants to the Galapagos islands. They will be too warm typically, but you will want them for the plane and maybe at night to enjoy the ocean at night. You should also bring a light sweater or sweatshirt, so you don’t miss the stunning sights and stargazing. Make sure to pack a jacket, preferably a waterproof one that can act double as a raincoat while you’re on the islands.
Footwear
Without a doubt, some Teva-tyle sandals are some of the most practical footwear you can bring to the island. They could be worn during dry and wet landings on the islands, protecting your feet from the hot and volcanic landscape while keeping them cool. You may want the protection and support of tennis shoes and sneakers, but we recommend that you bring an older broken-in pair that will suffer the damage of volcanic rock, saltwater, and sand.
Sunscreen
The sun hits the equator hard, and it will burn you before you even notice it. We recommend SPF 45 waterproof sunscreen everywhere, so do not forget the tops of your feet! A stronger sunburn could be harmful and ruin your trip, so do not forget the sunscreen!
