Indochina, which is also known as mainland Southeast Asia, is the continental part of Southeast Asia. It is east of the Indian subcontinent and south of China, and it’s bordered by the Indian Ocean to the west and then the Pacific Ocean to the east. It includes a handful of countries – Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia. This region has plenty to do and see, and we at AESU have our Secrets of Indochina tour happening in 2025! Our tour will explore Vietnam and Cambodia for nine days. Read on to learn more!
Phnom Penh
Cambodia’s capital is the perfect place to start exploring the country’s culture and history. On our morning tour, we will see the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum of Khmer Arts, which has stunning statues of Hindu gods and other ancient Sanskrit tablets. We will also visit the hilltop Buddhist Temple, Wat Phnom, the Choeng Ek Killing Field Memorial, and lastly, the central market, which was designed by French architect Louis Chauchon. This was constructed in 1937 in the shape of a dome with four arms that branch out into vast hallways with various stalls selling different goods.
Ho Chi Minh City
After Phnom Penh, we travel to Ho Chi Minh City. First, we take an excursion into the Chu Chi tunnels, an impressive underground network that spans approximately 125 miles. These tunnels, painstakingly built by the Viet Cong, served as hideouts, shelters, and hospitals during the Vietnam War. Following this historical exploration, we will visit the Reunification Palace, which is an enduring symbol of the war’s conclusion in 1975. The next stop for us is the Ben Thanh Market, a famous landmark in this city. In the evening, we can attend a water puppet show, which is a unique Vietnamese art form performed right by a large pool. Later on, you can explore Ho Chi Minh City’s nightlife. From stunning rooftop bars and lively nightclubs to other vibrant night markets and street bars, this bustling metropolis has endless opportunities for creating memories.
